Choosing Your Trellis Netting

Before installation, select the appropriate netting width and mesh size for your cultivation system.

EZ Trim Trellis Netting is available in:

4' wide × 3,280' long with 4" mesh

4' wide × 3,280' long with 6" mesh

6.5' wide × 3,280' long with 4" mesh

6.5' wide × 3,280' long with 6" mesh

Choose the width based primarily on the cultivation area or bench being covered.

The choice between 4-inch and 6-inch mesh should be based on your plant spacing, cultivation method, and desired canopy-support configuration.

Planning the Installation

Before cutting the netting, determine:

  Width of the cultivation bench or growing area

  Length of each bench or row
  
• 
  Desired trellis height
  
• 
  Number of trellis layers being installed
  
• 
  Location of stakes, frames, or attachment points
  
• 
  Whether the netting will be installed before or after plants are established
  

Measure the required length before cutting whenever possible.

For facilities with repeated bench dimensions, recording the required lengths can make preparing netting for subsequent rooms or harvest cycles more efficient.

Manual Installation

1. Position the Roll

Place the roll where the netting can be dispensed without becoming tangled or unnecessarily dragging across the cultivation area.

Large commercial rolls can be cumbersome, so make sure the roll is adequately supported while netting is being dispensed.

2. Pull the Required Length

Pull the netting toward the opposite end of the bench or cultivation area.

Keep the netting reasonably straight and aligned with the bench as it is extended.

Having one installer work from each side of the bench can make positioning long sections of netting easier.

3. Position the Netting

Center the netting over the cultivation area and position it at the desired trellis height.

When plants or stakes are already present, work the netting into position carefully to minimize snagging on branches or support structures.

4. Secure the Netting

Attach the netting to the facility's stakes, frame, bench, or other trellis-support structure.

Work progressively along the cultivation area so the netting remains aligned.

Apply sufficient tension to keep the trellis positioned properly without unnecessarily stretching or distorting the mesh.

5. Cut the Netting

Once the required length has been positioned and secured, cut the netting from the roll.

Secure any loose ends as required by the cultivation setup.

Installing with the EZ Trim High Roller

For larger commercial installations, EZ Trim Trellis Netting can be used with the EZ Trim High Roller.

The High Roller is designed to support, dispense, measure, and manage up to three rolls of trellis netting simultaneously.

1. Load the Netting

Install each roll onto one of the High Roller's lower roll-support bars and secure the bars properly.

Up to three rolls can be loaded at one time.

2. Route the Netting Over the Guide Bar

Pull the leading edge of the netting from each roll and drape it over the adjustable upper guide bar.

The rolls remain mounted on the lower support bars.

The upper guide bar controls the height from which the netting is delivered toward the cultivation bench.

3. Position the High Roller

Maneuver the High Roller to the end of the cultivation bench.

Once properly aligned with the bench, lock the casters in place.

The High Roller should normally remain stationary while the netting is pulled across the cultivation area.

4. Set the Guide Bar Height

Adjust the upper guide bar to the appropriate height for the installation.

When installing trellis over an empty bench, position the guide bar at a convenient working height.

When plants or stakes are already present, the guide bar can be raised so the netting approaches the cultivation area from above.

The High Roller guide bar can be raised to approximately 8 feet.

5. Pull the Netting Across the Bench

For best control, position one installer on each side of the cultivation bench.

Both installers should take hold of the netting and walk down the bench together.

As they pull, the netting unwinds from the stationary roll, travels up and over the guide bar, and extends across the cultivation area.

Try to keep both sides advancing at approximately the same rate so the netting remains centered and aligned.

6. Installing Over Existing Plants or Stakes

When plants or stakes are already in place, raise the High Roller guide bar sufficiently to provide clearance.

The installers can then pull the netting above the existing plants and stakes rather than dragging the netting through them.

After the required length has been extended over the bench, carefully lower the netting into its intended position.

7. Secure and Cut

Position the netting at the desired trellis height and secure it to the cultivation support structure.

Once installed, cut the netting from the roll.

Installing Multiple Trellis Layers

Many cultivation systems use more than one trellis layer as plants develop.

When using the High Roller, up to three rolls can be loaded simultaneously, allowing cultivation teams to manage multiple layers from the same system.

Set each trellis layer at the appropriate height for your cultivation method and plant-development stage.

Multiple layers do not necessarily need to be installed at the same time. Additional layers can be installed as required during plant development.

Measuring and Pre-Cutting Netting

Trellis netting can also be measured and cut before being taken into the cultivation area.

The High Roller is particularly useful for this process because it can support up to three rolls simultaneously.

Pull out the required length, measure the section for the appropriate bench or row, and cut it to size.

Pre-cut sections can then be transported into the cultivation area for installation.

For facilities with standardized bench lengths, pre-cutting multiple sections can simplify repeated installations.

Managing Unused Netting

Keep unused netting on the roll whenever possible to reduce tangling and make future installations easier.

When using the High Roller, excess netting that has been dispensed can be rewound onto the roll.

Before storing or moving a roll, secure the loose end so the netting does not unravel.

Store rolls where they will remain clean, organized, and protected from unnecessary damage.
